Anyone learning how to longboard in LA who wants to buddy up? Or longboarding pros who can tolerate a fun, enthusiastic newbie to teach new skills to?

Today I took Fishie for a spin, worked on my carve a bit. Got a little cocky at one point and pushed too hard, sending my board flying out in front of me. Has this happened to anyone?

Anyway, felt pretty sheepish holding on to my helmet and running after my own board for a good minute. Ego = crushed.

On my way back, I looked up and noticed a fellow longboarder going in the opposite direction. He had the biggest, warmest smile on his face as he watched me pass by. Time kind of slowed for a minute, in that nice, glowy way. I smiled back and wondered to myself for the 50th time, are longboarders a special breed of super nice people? Or do we all get that smiley thing when we’re squinting into the sun?

Either way, good day. Longboarding rules.

My first day riding around (and not just in my livingroom) on my new skateboard. The local high school boys immediately gave me the thumbs up and one even offered some gentlemanly advice on smoothing out my kludgy, heavy-footed push. Thanks dude. Good karma.

My left foot IS WAAAY sore! (I’m goofy, who knew)

So stoked for my next ride after work tomorrow! Ima test out my switch. I think it shouldn’t be too disastrous that’s how I learned to snowboard…I promise to wear my helmet. That’s what she said.
